Teaching Associate – Inpatient/Outpatient Vascular Surgery Service at UWMC Northwest

The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery within the University of Washington School of Medicine is recruiting for a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA) at the rank of Teaching Associate. This is a faculty position and will be based primarily at the University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW) with an anticipated start date in Winter 2021.

The APP Teaching Associate appointment is a 12-month term, with reappointment recommendation on an annual basis. University of Washington faculty engage in clinical care and teaching, with opportunities for quality improvement and research. APPs are an integral part of the surgical faculty team at UWMC-NW. Currently, there are 4 APPs and 3 vascular surgeons  the Division of Vascular Surgery at the Northwest Campus.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in this position is a member of a multi-disciplinary team that includes attending physicians, surgical residents, and medical students. This position provides services to UW Medicine patients/families and collaborate with other clinical teams, nursing, social work and therapists on staff in the inpatient and outpatient setting within the Wound Care Center, clinical offices and procedural areas. The APP will be responsible for providing services independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all wounds, arterial and venous disease, infection, pressure ulcers, and ostomy care.

Practice and Performance Expectations

  1. Provides timely patient and family assessment for Vascular Surgery Service and Wound Care Center patients.
  2. Participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Surgery service interventions.
  3. Collaborates with the physicians, primary care providers, subspecialty providers, and outpatient therapists to ensure coordination and continuity of care across settings.
  4. Attends appropriate clinical meetings to serve as a resource for staff and providers.
  5. Facilitates collaboration with the Outpatient Surgery Clinics to ensure continuity of care.
  6. Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other health professionals and community resources as appropriate.
  7. Participates as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices, quality improvement, and evaluation of patient care outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Current and valid state licensure as an ARNP or PA, and Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Graduate of an accredited PA Program
  2. Nationally Certified ARNP or PA-C with DEA
  3. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment
  4. Effective interpersonal skills, and clinical expertise in the care of patients with Surgery conditions requiring inpatient services.
